Summary
Chicory root has health benefits for the skin. Its extracts contain compounds like inulin, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents that can improve skin health and protect against damage. Studies show chicory root extract can moisturize the skin, reduce redness and soothe irritation. It may also have anti-aging effects by boosting collagen production and skin cell regeneration. Chicory root has been shown to strengthen the skin barrier and increase the skin's resistance to environmental pollutants and oxidative stress. It can activate pathwaysinvolved in antioxidant defense and boost levels of antioxidant enzymes like glutathione. This helps prevent free radical damage to skin cells. Chicory root may also help balance the skin microbiome. It acts as a prebiotic, feeding beneficial bacteria on the skin like lactobacilli. These good bacteria help maintain skin health and protect against inflammation and infection. Overall, chicory root shows promise as a natural ingredient for skin care. Both oral supplements and topical applications of chicory root extract have potential benefits for skin health, anti-aging, and protection from environmental damage. More research is still needed, but current studies suggest it may be useful as an ingredient in cosmetic and skincare products.
Antibiotic use in animal feed is banned in the EU,so scientists sought alternatives. Prebiotics,non-digestible food, aid gut health and reduce stress in calves.

Cos is from traditional Chinese medicine Aucklandia lappa Decne. This explored Cos mechanism improving psoriasis-like skin inflammation. In vivo model applied imiquimod to mice back skin, in vitro model Poly(I:C) stimulated-mouse dermal fibroblasts induced inflammation. Cos improved psoriasis-like skin inflammation pathology. Cos inhibited epidermal damage, inflammation-related expression and improved in vivo, in vitro skin-related inflammation.
