Summary
Cancer screening among women after introduction of national quality inficators After the introduction of national quality indicators for cancer screening in 2004 and 2005, screening rates for breast and colorectal cancer increased and socioeconomic disparities decreased in Israel. Cervical cancer screening rates remained unchanged, as its quality indicator was only introduced in 2015. Screening rates in 2017 were 70.5% for breast, 64.3% for colorectal and 49.6% for cervical cancer. Women in higher socioeconomic status areas were more likely to undergo cervical cancer screening. Increased participation and reduced disparities following the introduction of screening indicators highlight the importance of primary care. Recent introduction of cervical cancer screening indicators may further increase participation and reduce disparities. Overall, primary care can improve cancer prevention and early detection.
